Jaya Tiasa Holdings Bhd, fully integrated timber producer, will begin operations in the first of its four palm mills as scheduled in the second half of 2008.
The company is listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia, and is one of the largest timber corporations in the country with access to about 710,000 hectars of timber concessions in Sarawak.
The group is presently engaged primarily in the sale and export of logs, mainly to the United States, North Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Middle East, besides the manufacturing and sale of a diverse range of quality plywood, veneer and timber related products.
On the significant improvement in revenue and profits for Jaya Tiasa's financial year ended April 30, analysts said it was largely due to higher selling prices for the group's timber and log products.
Average selling prices of logs was up 19.7 percent year on year, to RM572 per cubic meter. Average selling prices of plywood rose to 31.5 percent year on year to RM1,705 per cubic meter.
The higher selling prices was originated by increasing global demand from countries such as India, China and the Middle East coupled with the lower supply situation worldwide.
